I just feel really bad that this tradition is being "cancelled." I think it is important to show our appreciation to the local community for all they do for us, particularly providing this great escape from our regular lives. I think part of the problem is that new-comers are not taught about what is involved or what is needed. There is a lot of "institutional" knowledge that is not being shared with people who would be willing to do whatever it is that needs to be done. If money is being "lost" every year, maybe people could make an annual commitment to donate whatever the short-fall is. Let's look for solutions rather than fault-finding!
