In Awe of Being Human: A Doctor's Stories from the Edge of Life and Death, received the 2014 Independent Publisher Living Now Book Award, which is "designed to honor the year's best books that help readers attain healthier, more fulfilling and productive lives." The book was given a gold medal as one of the "three outstanding books of the year" in the Mind, Body, Spirit category.
