GRINGO DAY/FIESTA TAURINAS LA MANZANILLA

Posted by Terri M. on January 2, 2015, 11:21 am

Let me start by THANKING the people that supported us the past 2 years. With your help we threw a luncheon that fed everyone well, that everyone felt proud to serve, work & attend.

The Gringo Day Committee has chosen to try something different this year. Instead of having a Gringo or Extranjeros Day, we are joining up with the Pollos Y Pollas. Pollos Y Pollas are the young business men & women of La Manzanilla. Their person in charge is Juan Ruiz. Juan has spoken to us of changing their name slightly to reflect our participation. We hope this joint day can be referred to as Pollos Y Pollas AND Gallos Y Gallinas OR Apolleras (this title is being worked on).

Due to "ever rising" costs we find ourselves struggling to meet "Total Rodeo" costs each year. As well, it was our hope that we could have the "next generation" of Extranjeros take over Gringo Day. Unfortunately the younger people have their own responsibilities in these tough economic times, therefore we feel it is a good step to join the Pollos Y Pollas. They are young & enthusiastic, if you have seen their Day in previous years they celebrate with fun & gusto.

We do plan on having a t-shirt on sale this year. Proceeds less costs will be donated towards Pollos Y Pollas Casino & Rodeo expenses. They will be sold at: The Helping Hands Bookstore & Palapa Joe's. We will announce thru the messageboard when the t-shirts are available. Donations of any denomination will be gratefully accepted at these locations.

On Pollos & Pollas day:
Entry into the Casino will be Free.
Entry into the Rodeo grounds will be $50 pesos.

INSTEAD OF SERVING OUR LOCAL FRIENDS & NEIGHBOURS WE WILL SITTING BESIDE THEM & DANCING WITH THEM IN THE CASINO.

NOTE: As this year will be "testing of the waters" any comments will be noted for the following year.

NB: If someone would like to step forward to take over Gringo Day next year 2016 please contact me. Heck .. from reading the messageboard messages .. if someone wants to take it over this year ... contact me NOW or by the end of this week, you will have the same amount of time as we do each year to pull off Gringo Day.

Good going Terri. The idea of teaming up with the dynamic younger crowd to put on one day is an positive direction to take.

It solves the rising cost problem by combining efforts with local people. No more "their day" and "our day".

It has Foreigners and Mexicans working together to have fun together.

It gets away from the "gringo day" label, which many of us non-gringo foreigners don't like.

It gives those on the north side of town one less sleepless night.

Look forward to some fun and gusto.

Thank you Larry F. for your positive post. The idea arose & was voted on by our 12 Sponsors (The Gringo Day Rodeo Committee).

The problem with someone stepping forward now is that "the committee of 12" has not indicated what is needed. Who are you?

For starters, we can change the name to "Dia de Extranjeros" so those sensitive to the term "gringo" can stop being offended.

I am/was a part-timer, and I have helped chop vegetables for 3 or 4 years; but, I have no idea exactly how many pounds of potatoes, carrots, onions, garlic, and chiles are needed or where they come from. I don't know how to make the salsa in the blender from the chiles.

I have observed the punch being made, but again, I have no idea how many pounds of sugar, guavas is it?, etc. are needed for that.

I have served food at the Casino, but I don't know how the food gets cooked or how it gets to the Casino.

Do you usually buy a whole cow?

Is there a budget?

That is what I was referring to when I asked for "institutional" knowledge.

It is nice young people want to join with us, but I think it is important that we say thank you ourselves!

Just bumping this back up so everyone reads this!
Today is the last chance to "volunteer to organize" Gringo Day 2015.

Hi Larry, There was so much talk on the message board, I'm just making sure people out there realize they must contact me now/today if they want to organize GD 2015. Otherwise we will proceed with joining Pollo's y Pollas.
