Tenacatita

Posted by Donna on January 18, 2015, 9:30 pm

Anyone been to Tenacatita for snorkeling lately? I'd like to know more about whether the guards are letting people walk over the hill from the big beach to the little beach for snorkeling? A few weeks ago there were different conflicting accounts on the message board from people who had recently gone. If they don't let you walk over, and you have to swim around, it might not be a good idea unless you're a strong swimmer? Thanks

Not allowed to walk over the hill, but you can walk around on the rocks, which is what everyone does. No need to swim around. At low tide you won't even get your feet wet.

What is the best time to go to snorkeling? Morning, right?

Thanks for the tip about walking around on the rocks to snorkel at Tenacatita. We went today-it was great! I think the best time is between high and low tide and of course that changes! Today mid tide was around 10am and we were there. Low enough to walk around the rocks and high enough not to scrape your tummy on the coral.

Wear good solid water shoes or sandals to walk on the rocks at any tide level ...flip flops are suicide.

No need to walk around at high to medium tide. If you are at all a competent swimmer you can go from beach and swim through middle if you know the way. I went two days ago and it was spectacular, The water is so clear and just the right temperature. I would be willing to "guide" for any one wanting to go next week Mon. or after. Yes morning is generally calmer and there for better. High tide is better so you can go farther over coral. Please don't stand on or touch coral, it is bad for you and it.
