Wow, Daniel! What an incredible documentary on how big resort hotel businesses give nothing back to the people they pay such minimal wages to and care less for the fragile environment they damage. There are no consequences to them or their pockets for all the destruction they continue to do to the environment. It is disturbing and so sad to watch it.

The developers seem oblivious that (at times) they are destroying the very thing
e.g. blue ocean, that brings people there. IMO the biggest challenge they face
is when "what is cool" changes to be exactly the opposite of what they offer.
People (young people in particular) are for the most part fickle followers
of the herd, which is led by a few popular (i.e. beautiful) trend setters. Small town
Mexico La Manz style may just be the next in thing, God forbid.

And to be viligiant, to try and guide the investors into an awareness of how
trends change, and how they should not only anticipate but initiate that
change with bold imaginative vision. The times they are (always) a changin.

Gee I guess you haven't heard that there are 1000 kids coming at the end of the month… to Boca… to camp anywhere they can find but primarily in three places. There are 20 toilets and 20 showers being built on a lot previously undeveloped behind the little store and a bit north. The water table up here is at 2 1/2 feet down and they dug a pseudo leech field which filled up and have installed two seemingly small septic tanks that the workers say will be emptied when full…which with 500 kids camping in that field will be how often? Who can predict how fast this will contaminate the wells located in that very same field?
This will create an impact on the environment that no one is interested in addressing…until in their own back yards which sadly is inevitable…

While up the mango out at tenacatita saw a cleared strip 15 meters wide, running off to the north, which is reportedly the new road with bridge being built to accommodate a new exclusive hotel out there. talk about land grabs, power politics and environmental degradation!

Thank you Daniel.
I was in Yucatan for few years in late 80"s.
It was great.
Playa de Carmen was just a little village with the ferry going to Cozumel.
La zona (hotels)in cancun was starting up.
So I came to the west coast looking for a safe beach for young kids to swim safely
and I discovered Boca de Iguanas and La Manzanilla in 1991.
I do not think that what happened in the Mayan Riviera will happen in La manz.
They are still building hotels and condos
in Nuevo Vallarta and Bucerias......
Thankfully for us.

It helps to shine a light on what's wrong, perhaps by opening a dialog on subject countermeasures by community to not just maintain status quo... but to match long term goals can find a grid that reserves choice for future generations, that not all decisions need be made, that would be good conservation. With respect.
