Cute eh??? NOT. How does one get rid of them. We have this visitor at night that gets in under our second floor palapa. Our dog goes nuts but it still comes back. No food left out.

Maybe scare him off with small stones, carry a stick, and maybe forceful water from a hose. He thinks he found a great new home. Be persistent and hopefully he'll give it up. You could trap him in a live trap and take him for a long drive and release him. I think someone in town has one. They are pretty smart and may be hard to get rid of him. Be carefull of those sharp teeth. Good luck!

Live trapping is the standard removal technique. They are opportunistic feeders so most bait options work for the trap. Not that you would ever try it, but poison is a really bad idea. They can die in very hard to remove places, stink, and draw flies. Be careful with your pets. There are lots of sharp teeth on that critter and they do not like to be cornered. The playing dead thing is mostly mythology. They can be quite aggressive when protecting young. Look for a nest nearby. They are opportunistic nesters so look about anywhere a nest might be dry and protected. They don't live long - a couple of years at most, but make lots of babies. The good news is they usually travel solo except when hooking up for tlacuache sexy-time. BTW, I think the tlacuache cuatro ojos is kind of cute. I see those guys in Nicaragua and Ecuador.

Thanks all. I am going to try leaving the lights on tonight. My Jack Russell would love to corner that critter but would get hurt. I am hoping the lights will work and it stays away. Maybe with the music across the street tonight it will want to find a quiet place to raid. :__)))))
