Mangrove story in the next Coconut Telegraph

Posted by June for Lyle on February 25, 2015, 1:48 pm

I just interviewed Pepe about the mangrove and why it's open. Look for the story in Friday's Coconut Telegraph.

I'll be at Hector's on Friday morning with the paper.

Poor Pepe, now he has to answer the same question 20 times between now and
then. But hey, we got to teach our children how to monitize everything so too
bad for Pepe.

Daniel,

Pepe and Lyle are good buddies. Lyle thinks Pepe has the coolest job in the world as the "caretaker of the mangrove."

Between last night and this afternoon many people asked Lyle about the mangrove and suggested he find out what happened. They thought it would be a good story for him. Not everyone knows Pepe or speaks enough Spanish to feel comfortable talking to him.

The Coconut Telegraph is free

AND IT'S GETTING HIM TO WRITE! Which he has always hated until now.

I think it is great what Lyle is doing with the Coconut Telegraph but I
differentiate between local interest and current news stories. It would be
different if the paper was coming out this evening, at least regarding the question
load for Pepe.
But there is something else about charging for timely community information,
it goes against what this message board is about (at least for the most part),
sharing information for the sake of community. Lyle, as editor of the paper
could have posted the information as a byline, as a gift to his readers and potential
readers, that would also work on his writing skills.
Anyway, there was something about it that bugged me so I expressed my opinion and
now we are having a discussion about it, much better than speaking my view
only to selected people behind your back eh? I am open to having my opinion
swayed, its not locked in stone.

P.S.

Come on Daniel! He's a kid. Is he the only person in town who can get the answer?

No, anyone can, I am actually poorly expressing another point.

Thinking how other news sources would promote circulation and what may
have been a compromize of sorts would have been a partially revealing headline
e.g. Lagoon so full it interferes with X, full story in Friday's edition.
