It was not a mishap. Last year, at the same regatta, Grant and I had thrilled the crowds with our rather unusual boat launch. This year our launch was perfect, but we sensed that the crowd in the granstand was disappointed.

We decided to provide a display of a special maneuver righting a capsized sailboat. In a matter of seconds, we would have the boat up and on its way. Unfortunately the Mexican Air Sea Rescue called asking if we needed emergency helicopter rescue. When we signed off we realized that we hadn't really talked about the manouver at all. After a lot of useless attempts and several conferences in the water we figured it out, and the boat was righted. The applause from the beach was overpowering, but unfortunately the race was half over.

Maybe next year.i

If you are righting the boat I would expect to see one person upwind at the top of the mast lifting so that the wind creeps under the top of the sail and lifts the whole boat for you instantly. Work smarter, not harder.

A lot of people showed up at 1 pm since that was when the race was supposed
to start. When I told them it had started at 12:30 the most common reply was
"you mean we missed watching Larry and Grant launch!"

It was beautiful to see everyone come together and take care of you. Judy and
Peter with the blood pressure and Stethoscope, the blanket, help getting you
to the car and Rob going with you to the hospital. Lots of people assisting,
great community we have here! Best part was seeing you back in La Manzanilla
asking for a Tequila
