The high surf has apparently claimed 3 lives in southern Mexico according to this article (in English): http://mexiconewsdaily.com/news/at-least-three-dead-from-groundswell/
Highlights:
> 10-meter waves and lots of property damage in Guerrero state, especially Acapulco.
> 8-meter waves in Colima state, beaches closed and some people evacuated in Manzanillo.
Those wave heights are almost unbelievable. Most of the other news reports are saying more like 4 meters. Maybe the 4m is the swell height out in the open ocean, while the 10m is how they pile up and break at the shore??
This report has more details outside of Mexico, and says that there was a big storm off New Zealand sending us big waves, followed by another storm around the Date Line that then took over:
