Hi Taylore:
My wife and I got lung infections last March. I was shovelling our driveway for a few hours and inhaled the dust. It also drifted up to our house and my wife inhaled some as well. We were both very sick and visited the Doc in Melague who thought it was Denge. We jumped on the plane and headed home. My wife was sick for about a month but I was hospitalized and was very ill for months. The fungal infection can be either valley fever or Histoplasmosis the latter being from bird and bar guano. There are anti-fungal drugs but in my case by the time they figured out what I had, my body was handling the infection. I suspect lots of folks get this but think it's the flu or pneumonia and locals may have built up an immunity. We are going to be cautious about dust in future. By the way, this is common in Palm Springs, Phoenix and in Ohio. One strain is called "Ohio River Valley fever.
Hope this answers your questions.
Paul
