I am one of the locals who got very sick and was diagnosed at Stanford through biopsy of a fungus mass in my lung as Ohio River Valley Fever . They were quite puzzled since no resident of California had ever been diagnosed with this strain , and we could only ascertain that I contacted it while staying in Mexico . It does come from bat quano and bird droppings from Ohio , but we figured that it had to be migrating Ohio birds vacationing in Mexico like myself . I have herd of other Gringos getting lung infections in La Manz , and I know of one other diagnosed with Histoplasmosis , also known as Coccicidiomycosis . It took two years for my immune system to defeat it , and my lung xray this June showed it gone . Wear a particle mask whenever sweeping or stirring up the dirt . The anti-fungl drugs were awful,............ And cost about 400.00 U.S. Dollars a week . I stopped taking them after one week
