In a few days I'll be leaving my rain gauge for a couple months or more (one of the reasons I need to "retire".)
Is there anyone who stays here in La Manzanilla most of the time who would like to track the rainfall and report on any interesting rain totals here on the message board ("Rain Reporter")? I think that is the most popular weather report.
It would also be great if we can keep the historical data record going with fewer big gaps than I was leaving. To continue the data record, there are a couple options. A few times during the year I can enter your rain data into the spreadsheets that I have that go back to 2004 for safe-keeping. Or if you like I can transfer the sheets to you if you are a little Excel / Open Office savvy.
And if you don't have any kind of rain gauge, I can loan or donate a simple plastic gauge. It's a little easier to read and more accurate than a soup can and ruler . If you install it just right you might even be able to read it without going outside and getting wet! Just let me know in the next couple days if you're interested in this gauge.
The other data I've been collecting (daily max/min temperatures and daily max/min humidities) would take a little more work to explain and transfer. If anyone is up for that data-taking, let me know soon.
Don't worry if you have to miss an occasional daily rainfall measurement. Almost anything will be better than the huge data gaps that I have been leaving the last 2-3 years! Step right up and give it a try!
