Our friends, Maria (Esstler Espinoza Lopez) and her husband, Cesar (Armando Rodriguez) have requested that we post an update, with request on La Manzanilla's volunteer first-aid/emergency organization "proteccion civil voluntario", which is based out of a rather ramshackle, little, bare-bones building on the main street, right side, coming into town...
Maria and her husband are long-term trained volunteers with "sertificado de primeros auxilios" (first aid training), who have 4 young daughters, and are now solely responsible for this strictly volunteer organization, which is a 24 hour, on-call, first-aid response unit, attending medical emergencies, including automobile accidents (of which they ask only a donation to cover the petrol). They interface directly with ambulance/hospital.
To my understanding, they receive no funding and primarily rely on philanthropic North Americans, residing/visiting here, for donated medical supplies. Due to the lack of financing, they are always in need of disposable gloves, bandages, medical tape and other relavant equipment/supplies.
They would really like to be able to better support the entire community here, but are not able to communicate well in any language, but Spanish. They are looking for a reliable, bilingual/multilingual contact partner, based in La Manz, who could provide an emergency telephone number to the gringo community and act as intermediary, in the event of an emergency.
Is there anybody out there who is ready, willing & able take on this daunting task..?
