If MIT wants something to crow about, they should tackle the problem of generating electricity from wave action and then desalinating sea water for human consumption and irrigation. Many millions of acres could be productive around the world for agriculture near the ocean. Think Baja, Chile, southern Africa, India, etc.
Even an old wore out carpenter like me can make usable water using solar panels, our Idaho home is totally solar and has been for 9 years. However, solar is reliable only 60 to 75% of the time in most locations. Waves are always there. Food for thought as population grows and the climate heats up. Rojo
