Tenacatita

Planning a trip there by car for Thursday - does anyone know the best time of day to go for snorkeling? From the tide chart, it looks like high tide is at 9:00 AM and low tide is at 3:00 PM. So in the snorkeling world, is it best to go at high tide, in the early morning, when the sea should be relatively calm? I've only been a couple of times, and it didn't work too well, as the waves were too high, pushing me up against the rocks, etc. Oh, and another question: Are we now 'allowed' to walk over the hill from the main beach, or do we have to go around the rocks by the sea? ie., are the guards back, restricting access? Any opinions from experienced snorkellers will be much appreciated! | ------------------------Re: Tenacatita

It is best to go at high tide because at low tide you might scrape your belly on the coral. Yes, you are allowed to walk or drive over the hill. The guards are not supposed to even talk to you. | ------------------------Re: Tenacatita

Oh, that's good news, Chile - thanks! And are you camping on the 'aquarium' beach or on the main beach - we'll look for you and say Hi. One more question: Are there still any restaurants open on the main beach? Could someone please post a picture of how it looks over there now, is there any shade available, etc.? I really appreciate your responses, Chile - when you have guests here, it's great to be able to plan based on what others have experienced. Once again, Daniel, thanks so much for this message board. | ------------------------Re: Tenacatita

Thanks, Kimberley - it looks as if that little ramada restaurant for micheladas would still be up - probably get some shade there. | ------------------------Re: Tenacatita

It's micheladas and no food. No restaurants There are two outhouse/toilets down by the lagoon. You need a bucket of water to flush

Yes there is food and beer at Chely's restaurant. A full menu. So far it's the only restaurant on the beach. The waves are bigger today so be careful. | ------------------------Re: Tenacatita

Carol, I'm probably a little late but I forgot to tell where we are camped. We are about 100 meters east of the large hotel that is halfway down the main beach. | ------------------------
