PV was calm and restored to usual by about 6pm Friday. We had to drive end to end to retreive cars left behind earlier in the day. Any arriving guests should have no trouble transferring south to LM over the weekend. | ------------------------Re: Best to stay at home this weekend

Marcia and I drove to PV yesterday morning arriving around 11am. No sign of any trouble except one fire engine trying to get through traffic. We saw one fire in the distance. All else was normal. We stopped at Costco and started headed home around 2:30. All the gas stations were closed, a little disconcerting since I needed gas to get home. I thought maybe there was a strike due to Labor Day. We encountered one in Oaxaca a few years ago. When we got to El Tuito the station was open and we were told 8 different Pemex's had fires in PV so all were shut down. We continued south with no traffic, no police , very quiet. Just past Tomatlan before the road to Villa Purification a big dump truck with a burned out cab was being towed into a yonke. We had no idea of what was going on . Just proves that "ignorance is bliss". | ------------------------For Lee

Correct me if I'm wrong, but on this twitter feed website it looks like there were two vehicles torched outside a business in PV just a few hours ago. https://twitter.com/alertaciudadan | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

Interesting. Car fires do happen in the regular world, they are not normally connected with Cartel activity. See if you can find another source to back up the claim that it was set by gunmen, so far it is only one person saying that. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

It is true that more car torching and unrest continues in PV today. Large military transport planes and helicoptors at the aeropuerto. A very big inspection point is before the river bridge crossing into Nayarit. There is a rumor that "El Mencho" the narco leader has "escaped" custody. No confirm on that story as yet. A sad sight in our fairly - til now quiet little city. Luckily at the Lans department store the staff were able to quickly put out the fire in a car that was rolled inside yesterday. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

Midnight Saturday, the PV Malecon is in flames. Just saw the photos. Had heard earlier that NightClubs had recd warnings not to open tonight. We are longterm busness owners in Vallarta with a well developed network. The burned banks & Pemex's I saw myself as well as the airport and troops at the bridge the past few days. We are praying this isn't going to be a long aweful night. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

https://twitter.com/alertaciudadan Copy and paste into your browser and follow the multiple postings of photos and videos over the past 2 days. The link contains names of streets and roads, as well as maps. So far, Mexican local social media seem to provide the most up to date source of info that I have been able to find. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

The situation in PV and elsewhere confirms that the intent of terrorism is to create terror. In that regard, very well meaning friends & social media contacts are trading and passing along alerts and warnings with information that may not be correct. In our 10 years we have not felt the tone and fear that is present right now in PV. Whether confirmed by a "credible" journalistic source or not, the mood and perspective of residents of Vallarta has been changed only in the past few days. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

Thank you Robert for your post. In response to the first paragraph, communication is both the problem (rumors) and the answer (realizing they are rumors). Hopefully the take away lesson is to pass along only information which comes from reliable sources and even better more than one reliable source. On a bit of a different note (but also related) here is a link to eye witnesses. In response to the second paragraph your statement about the mood and perspective of residents of Vallarta is credible and citeable. If one were to pass that information along it should note that it is from one source just to keep the data pure. If more reliable sources reinforce your position then one would pass along the information as coming from several sources. If a lot of reliable sources confirm the same viewpoint then one could pass along the information with many people as the qualifier. Eventually one would be able to say that the majority of people feel that way. Despite the fact that the Internet and cellular communication has been with us for some time now it would behoove us to remember we are in the process of learning both the value and the power of this relatively new way of communicating. Again, thank you for your post. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

And thank you Daniel. All agreed. The well intended sharing of sometimes incorrect information is innocent enough, but then the misguided and harmful posting of photoshopped pics of night time fires in PV is just hard to comprehend. Credibilty also can have it's flexibility when Touristic Boards or Business Associations who rely on visitor traffic find the need to keep a clean image. It doesn't mean that things did not happen. | ------------------------Re: Security Message, May 2nd. 2015 (Update)

Yes, almost everything has a slant (spin) and getting accurate information is difficult but not impossible. Let's hope that either the information becomes more reliable or our ability to find accurate information and recognize spin improves. | ------------------------
