Hi all I remember reading posts on here in regards to people acquiring lung disorders caused by breathing in dust with migratory bird feces..if someone could give me the name of the disease I would greatly appreciate it. Did a Search for older posts but no luck. Thanks | ------------------------Re: Lung problems caused by dust & birds

Hi Taylore: My wife and I got lung infections last March. I was shovelling our driveway for a few hours and inhaled the dust. It also drifted up to our house and my wife inhaled some as well. We were both very sick and visited the Doc in Melague who thought it was Denge. We jumped on the plane and headed home. My wife was sick for about a month but I was hospitalized and was very ill for months. The fungal infection can be either valley fever or Histoplasmosis the latter being from bird and bar guano. There are anti-fungal drugs but in my case by the time they figured out what I had, my body was handling the infection. I suspect lots of folks get this but think it's the flu or pneumonia and locals may have built up an immunity. We are going to be cautious about dust in future. By the way, this is common in Palm Springs, Phoenix and in Ohio. One strain is called "Ohio River Valley fever. Hope this answers your questions. I am one of the locals who got very sick and was diagnosed at Stanford through biopsy of a fungus mass in my lung as Ohio River Valley Fever . They were quite puzzled since no resident of California had ever been diagnosed with this strain , and we could only ascertain that I contacted it while staying in Mexico . It does come from bat quano and bird droppings from Ohio , but we figured that it had to be migrating Ohio birds vacationing in Mexico like myself . I have herd of other Gringos getting lung infections in La Manz , and I know of one other diagnosed with Histoplasmosis , also known as Coccicidiomycosis . It took two years for my immune system to defeat it , and my lung xray this June showed it gone . Wear a particle mask whenever sweeping or stirring up the dirt . The anti-fungl drugs were awful,............ And cost about 400.00 U.S. Dollars a week . I stopped taking them after one week | ------------------------Re: Lung problems caused by dust & birds

I owe an apology to several of you and thanks to God for me dodging a bullet. As a part of my civic duty and my excerise program, I sweep the sand off the street in front of our house. While I do work at standing "up-wind" I don't wear a mask and also have not been very gracious to those of you who came by and suggested I should wear a mask. I might just not sweep the sand.

Rojo, when he is down here, intentionally sucks up dust all day. He say's that's what you do in Idaho. Except for his third eye, I see no harm in his approach. | ------------------------
