Last night be received a much needed rain. Believe it or not with the 89-90degree temperatures and high humidity the gardens were in need of moisture. Our rain gauge disintegrated so I'm guessing we had about an inch. Any other guesses? After 17 years this will be the first late July we're still be in La Manz. It is beautiful!! | ------------------------Re: Wonderful rain

And to think they sprayed for Denque last night. Two men were just here and they will be doing the last spray tonight. However looks like rain again tonight. Is that doing a job just to do it, because if it rains it is wasted right? | ------------------------Re: Wonderful rain

Yes, the rain will dilute the effects. The topic of spraying can get deep real quick e.g. as to the effectiveness vs the ecological ramifications. Then throw in the use.... just cause the producer and the use of its product is ingrained in the norm / budget. You have those who look for and find reasons to use chemicals (the producers), and those who look for and find reasons not to. When you go to the history of mosquito eradication and the The Global Malaria Eradication Programme which was launched in 1955 you learn that many countries had eradicated the problem when the program was stopped. In the years since malaria has once again become a major killer globaly. Going conspiracy theorist a bit why was the eradication not completed? I say a keep the problem and profit on solutions mentality was at least a part of the agenda. With more effort there is a possibility that mosquitoes would not be an issue. There are some who question the basis for the ban on DDT. I really did not do this topic justice, there are much better links to much better synopsis out there, I was just too lazy to do the work to find them. My response is to use a mosquito net.

Empirical evidence is the hallmark for the scientific method. | ------------------------
