Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Assuming that any planned activities don't get rained out for the third year in a row, does anyone know if El Grito (The Cry) and/or Independence Day are celebrated here in La Manz? If so, where and when? Thanks. | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

We had the same question and called the Delegado's office. No information was given so we were left in the same quandary. My guess is that not much will be happening, even the band from the secundaria has not been practicing for the usual parade on the 16th. So Angela and I are planning a gathering of whatever size tonight next to Daniel's sunset bar. then, we'll be ready to hear 'El Grito' de independencia, if there is one around 11:00 or 12:00, in el Jardin. Bring a bocadillo and your drink, we'll do the music. See you, Cruz | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Thanks, Cruz! I miss my years in San Miguel de Allende, la cuna de independencia, but only once a year on El Grito night. | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Hey Daniel, It is Ron's birthday tomorrow. We got to spend it one year in San Miguel...wonderful. When the crowd yelled Viva Mexico I yelled Viva Ron. | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Actually she yelled "Viva Reynaldo" as did others in the crowd. I may have painted my cheeks red, white, and green. | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

ron in spanish is rum........ so "viva ron" would be greeted well by all rum aficionados and mix a little coca cola in it and "viva cuba libre"..... another revolution......... eso es mi grito... | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Apparently tonight (Tuesday) there will be something going on in the jardin around 8 or 9 pm! Tomorrow most shops, government offices etc will be closed. | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Well, of course it began to rain at 7:30 PM! :-( You can watch El Grito at 11 PM on the San Miguel de Allende webcam. Maybe also Mexico City? | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Well, Angela, L. and I showed and got nice and wet. Daniel played us some cumbias and we danced and ate until the lights went out. then we continued at Du Calcetin's with Roberto and his three neat sons to await the midnight hour and El Grito de Independencia in the Jardin. We sang old Mexican revolution songs and romantic ballads accompanied by Venancio on the guitar when we heard that the Grito had happened early. No matter. We continued with our sponaneous celebration and a memorable night. Viva Mexico, Viva La Manzanilla. Cruz | ------------------------Re: Any El Grito or Independence Day Festivities in La Manz?

Well, at the 11 PM El Grito hour I listened to the cry for independence and national anthem on "presidency radio" out of DF while watching the San Miguel webcam. I think you had a better time.;-) | ------------------------
