Alarma

Hola. Don't forget that the tsunami alarm will signal a practice drill some time this Saturday, most likely between 10:00 and 11:00 AM. Participate and be a positive example for the local community and visiting tourists. Just run up any street going up the hillside. You have five minutes as it is an 8.1 Richter scale simulation. As requested we asked for written information which could be posted informing people what to do during a real earthquake and tsunami. We have concrete roofs and that makes a lot of difference. Lisa will be posting if and when she gets the nitty gritty. Cruz | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Can't we just climb onto our second-story roofs? | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Yes, of course Lynne. But in case the earthquake causing the tsunami damages your building, you want to know where you will run to (your plan). Remember an 8.1 quake is huge. You live this side of the arroyo and are vulnerable to the tsuname wave. If you are out and about, again where will you run to if you happen to be in a low lying area and the second floor is not available. I plan to be in the sports field watching the Peques play soccer this Saturday. Supposedly we will be high enough there (10 - 12 meters above sea level) to be out of tsunami harm and a good place to be unless the earth were to open up. One never knows and we'll do the best we can. thank you for a good question. Maybe the Proteccion Civil personnel, who will be here on Saturday, have better or other responses. If you can, be sure to ask them. Cruz | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Good points, Cruz! Of course I could plan to be home on Saturday morning, but it hadn't occurred to me that I probably wouldn't be there if an actual tsunami hit. DUH. Nevertheless, wherever I am, I would be tempted to run home to try to save my pets... | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Just now there was a Protectio Civil truck doing alarms like the big alarm used to play and telling about the event Saturday. Come to think of it I haven't herd the big siren go off since they installed it years ago. I think its broke?

Mmmm, how strange to see the jardin wet . . . and unoccupied. I appreciate the questions being put forth here. Good things to consider whether I'm here, on my end of 'the fault' or there, on the other end. AND, I've just discovered something interesting. This computer self-corrects and turns jardin into garden . . . unless I take overt steps to disallow that. Dang technology sometimes. | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Sorry, the photo is from 2009. Although it may look pretty close to that tomorrow. http://lamanzanilla.info/e_la_manzanilla_photos_town_08.html I turn all that auto stuff off with the exception of search suggestions. One day in the not so distant future we will become aware of just how new we were / are to this huge shift in communication / information that we have been going through for the past 15 years (or so). It is like putting a 4 year old behind the wheel of an automobile. The power of these machines and communication is quantum fold (whatever that means) ahead of our ability to appreciate / use it. I trust we will catch up, the kids will show us the way if we can get past our arrogance and adapt / learn / change. "Fasten your safety belt its going to be a bumpy night" ride. Come gather 'round people Wherever you roam And admit that the waters Around you have grown And accept it that soon You'll be drenched to the bone If your time to you Is worth savin' Then you better start swimmin' Or you'll sink like a stone For the times they are a-changin'. Come writers and critics Who prophesize with your pen And keep your eyes wide The chance won't come again And don't speak too soon For the wheel's still in spin And there's no tellin' who That it's namin' For the loser now Will be later to win For the times they are a-changin'. Come senators, congressmen Please heed the call Don't stand in the doorway Don't block up the hall For he that gets hurt Will be he who has stalled There's a battle outside And it is ragin' It'll soon shake your windows And rattle your walls For the times they are a-changin'. Come mothers and fathers Throughout the land And don't criticize What you can't understand Your sons and your daughters Are beyond your command Your old road is Rapidly agin' Please get out of the new one If you can't lend your hand For the times they are a-changin'. The line it is drawn The curse it is cast The slow one now Will later be fast As the present now Will later be past The order is Rapidly fadin' And the first one now Will later be last For the times they are a-changin'. | ------------------------Re: Alarma

Thank you Cruz (even though I'm not there yet) and Daniel...for that wonderful piece of poetry I remember well. We should all memorize it...lest we forget. | ------------------------
