Roger deRoos (1930 - 2015)

My Dad, Roger deRoos, who some of you knew from the time I lived in La Manzanilla and/or our return trips over the past several years, made his transition peacefully on Sunday morning. He was at home on San Juan Island with a gorgeous view of the water on a calm morning. At 85, he had lived life to the fullest in more ways than I can put into words. This photo, an editorial he wrote earlier this year, and a map he kept of places he had lived or visited tell pieces of the story. I'm grateful for the time we had, and will do my best to live up to his legacy. I trust that whatever happens next he will embrace it wholeheartedly, and if there is an ounce of inequity he will be writing letters to whomever is the editor around there... My Dad loved the community of La Manzanilla and was close to many people there. Thank you for the many wonderful memories, right down to watching him and my mom body surfing on a gorgeous day last May. I look forward to delivering big hugs of gratitude to quite a few individuals when I next visit for all of your support over the past year and a half as his health declined.

Thankyou! Thanks for your brief epitaph about your father, Roger deRoos. My sincere condolences. By posting your notice, you have introduced me to Friends of the Constitution and some some very wonderful writing. I subscribe to the LM bulletin board as an icon of warmth and light while I still live here in the great wet north of the upper BC coast. Your posting was a rainbow within that light. Thanks again. He will be missed at the beach bar, wonderful person, excellent conversationalist. I will hold the highest vision of you and your family at this cross roads.
