After weathering this powerful storm, and now with power restored I am catching up with this discussion on making donations
I am relatively new to living here, speak Spanish, and live here year round. I am a community-minded person, and would be happy to help in an effort to coordinate/assist with donations in some fashion.
I have a land line and phone plan that allows me to make unlimited calls to US (and Canada I believe), should this prove helpful. We may be able to use a Paypal Donation button that Mary Jo Olberg already been set up for the sewer renovation project. I will check with her, and do some more research so we might provide support where and how it is needed.
I think (as others have noted) that it's wise that we foreigners stay informed and aware of what the agencies and individuals in Mexico are/will be doing for support. From what I have observed so far, clean up and tree trimming began almost immediately, which has already made a tremendous difference.
Police, military, CFE, and many other agencies are present.
It hasn't rained again which is helpful for those without roofs.
Power has been restored to much of La Manzanilla; I don't know about the surrounding villages.
Most people say they are very happy to be alive and surviving this disaster is the most important thing.
Respectfully,
Lisa F. Preschel
