We have been coming to La Manz for over 12 years, staying six months... With our dog. Last 'spring' was the first time we experienced these 'dog ticks'. I know that's what they are as I took a vial of 'samples' back to our vet and the lab confirmed what they were Dog Ticks, and did not have any harm to humans nor Lyme disease.
Tick like to hang on the edges of grass and low lying bushes, in the morning, like dew. They wait for a dog to wander by, and attach to the fur.
I have used K9 advantik on my dog dor 17 years with no adverse side affects. frontline is similar, but I think perhaps an American version, might be a stronger product. You have to apply very four weeks, not five, not five and a half. Our problem last year was that I was lax in applying, and missed a month... And then the ticks thrived. The K9 works in the dog's blood stream, and kills tick and larvae. As soon as I put it on, within 24 hours, the ticks and larvae dropped off dead.
If I find a tick on my dog, I use tweezers to remove and wash the area with alcohol wipe. You can use soap and water.
I take my dog out in the morning on a leash, and try not to let him near wet grass etc. I check him almost three or four times a day for ticks, brush him, cut his hair, and bath him at least every two weeks. I use Bolfo shampoo, from vet in Melaque. I Check the dog bedding, and floors very day, and it seems to work. Vacuuming the floors is the best thing, but sweeping and washing daily is advised. Use vinegar, baking soda, and strong floor soap works well. Clorox does not kill ticks or fleas.
Watch where your dog walks, avoid bush along roads... And check and groom constantly.
Good Luck!
