donations to help put on roofs

Hi all, I have noticed several folks asking about how to make donations for the community. I know one way with assurance that 99% of donations comes back to the community's poorest and most in need. My husband Felipe and I, fulltime residents of La Manz, have organized and are working daily with a local team of guys, funded by my brother's organization,Operation Blessing International.Right now we are focused on putting roofs on homes of elderly, single mom's with kids and handicapped who lost roofs in La Manz. Today two homes got cleaned up and have new roofs ...tomorrow 2 more, with 4 more planned so far. The list grows daily as we find more and more folks in desperate need. The Mexican branch of OB, Operacion Bendicion, came from DF with all sorts of equipment and is present with their team of men cutting and clearing trees, generating chlorine for distribution to everyone starting tomorrow in front of the delegation. The chlorine is to disinfect homes affected by water and debris coming in. Also to use in tinacos and our water system in general. They were working today with Morgan and another water organization here now, teaching them how to use the chlorine generator for different purposes. Go to www.obmx.org for links for donations. I will post photos as soon as I have internet at home again. Using cell phone to write now. Thanks, Judy Horan and Felipe Arellano | ------------------------Re: donations to help put on roofs

Hola Judy y Felipe. I am so glad to hear of your group and their work. Can you please check to see if on your list you have a single mom with three kids, one handicapped, and another due in three weeks. Her kitchen roof is gone along with doors and screen walls. They are now staying at the shelter. She desperately needs to get settled before the new arrival which could arrive sooner than in three weeks. Hi Judy I tried to donate to the www.obmex.org, which also has a convenient paypal button. The amount seems to be stuck at $200 pesos and I could donate more. Seems like a good organization. Thanks | ------------------------Re: donations to help put on roofs

That's great Wendy, every peso counts and helps buy materials and get the work done. Our work crew, of 6 local guys, has finished 5 roofs in the last 3 days with 2 more planned for tomorrow. Folks who were totally vulnerable to the elements are now feeling safe and dry. Judy and Felipe | ------------------------Re: donations to help put on roofs

Wendy, I did note the issue you had while donating and have let OB Mex know. Rest assured there is plenty of money to continue with roofs here. Meanwile one can do other dollar amounts via the main website in the states, www.ob.org. All disaster relief donations go where needed, as needed. Thanks again, Judy Horan | ------------------------Re: donations to help put on roofs

Help for Los Ingenios? Many people don't even know our wonderful village exists on the other side of the hi way, and is just minutes from La Manz. Folks here were affected greatly by Patricia, too, with the exact same problems. I'm wondering if Operation Blessing will find its way here to help the locals? I know they'd appreciate any help. My husband was a contractor in the states and we're willing to help in any way. Thanks!

Hi Susie, One of our first ventures out was to Los Ingenios. We replaced roofs for Don Florentino Rosas and his wife,Socorro last week. The other roofs we found missing (of elderly, handicapped and single mom's ) were of palapa or had far less damage than we were finding in La Manz. My husband's team was instructed to stay focused on La Manz which he did, completing roofs and cleanup on 20 homes as of yesterday. OB's other two teams were and still are concentrating on rebuilding in Pinal Villa and Chamela, communities where many lost total homes. Perhaps some of the money collected by the group "Viva La Manzanilla" could be used to help those still in most need in Los Ingenios. It is truly an extended community of La Manz. Blessings, Judy and Felipe | ------------------------Re: donations to help put on roofs

Judy, I remember 1995 when you have been in La Manz during the earthquake and tidal wave. You took your tent and went to the football field where the people without homes stayed. You gathered all the traumatised kids and gave them material to paint what they experienced. We had later beautiful post cards from these paintings made. You are there for the people in need. THANK YOU! | ------------------------ |
