The Mess on Barra's Beach

Took these photos yesterday in Barra de Navidad. I've never seen anything like this. The rocks on the entire beach appear to be glued together by large amounts of yellow styrofoam- it seems like an environmental nightmare. The last photo was taken last season, on February 9, 2015.

For sure they don't want anyone to know. This is the kind of stupid stuff human beings do. I was talking with Davison Collins the other night, and he said Barra had a mangrove similar to ours, and destroyed it to build the housing development 'canals'. He said the mangrove helps to support the retention of the sand bar. Barra has cleaned the streets with a toothbrush it seems, and decorated the town like I have never seen. In English we have a saying- 'putting lipstick on a pig'? Lots of chilangos and Guadalajarans there... I took this photo on Sunday as well:

Not to mention with the 3 story structures going up right on the beach that block the wind to town, making it hot as hell even when you are on a street close to the beach. I really hope La Manzanilla doesn't allow such senseless planning. | ------------------------Re: The Mess on Barra's Beach

I believe that stuff is from the quick-fix after the 2005 tidal wave & 2011 hurricane Jova by using expanding supposed "environmentally friendly foam" to stabilize cracking concrete & rock sea walls creating a quick “backbone”. more: http://www.bioone.org/doi/pdf/10.2112/SI71-013.1 | ------------------------Re: The Mess on Barra's Beach

I was over in Barra a few times last winter and saw the "spray foam" in between the rocks and wondered why they would use such a process to stabilize any rock that would be assaulted by wave action! It appeared to be breaking apart then and obviously still looks quite messy! Below are two of the photos I took. In the photo below you can see some of the spray foam on the left edge of the photo in amongst the rocks.

That is so sad. Their new beach looked so lovely last year and their tourists were finally returning | ------------------------
