Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

I took this picture of Rosa in her house today. She is a seamstress and has her taller there. She's with her beautiful daughter Sulaika, 7 years old and full of sweet energy. You may remember I took her photo last year with her incredibly nice father Lionel, who sells the gluten-free oat/cornmeal and cookies (and pay de queso) around town.

Thank you David! I love this family so much and especially that she is a seamstress! Love the tape measure over her shoulders! | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

How did their house fare during the hurricane? I have been worried about them. | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

The hurricane tore their kitchen roof off, but the main part of the house has a concrete roof, and their belongings stayed dry. Many trees are down around there too. We drove up that road, deep in beyond the plaza de toros, to check on them. We saw small stacks of that reddish coloured corrugated roofing material (lamina) at houses along the way. When we arrived at their house we saw that Protección Civil had just delivered lamina to their house too. | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

I used Rosa several times to make dresses and I can testify she is a great seamstress!! | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

Rosa is really talented. She can make almost anything and it is always perfect. She's a gem! Highly recommended! | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

Hola. Does anyone know if Sombrelia (umbrella) material can be found somewhere in this area, including PV? Rosa will make us an umbrella if I can find the cloth. I love working with her. Cruz | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

I was browsing in the bookstore today when someone came in asking where the seamstress lived. Could you post her address or describe where she lives? | ------------------------Re: Humans of La Manzanilla: Sulaika & Rosa

Unfortunately the road is bad and it is some distance if you don't have a car. Take the main road out of La Manz towards the highway, turn right at the second road into the plaza de toros, the road closer to the highway side, keep following the road straight, don't turn off. You come to a group of houses on your right, keep going, around a bend to the right and up the hill. About 100 meters up you see their house, with concrete roof on your left. You can ask on the way up in case you're unclear. I wonder if a drop-off point could be arranged, perhaps the bookstore? Then Rosa's husband could pick up the items, and bring them back to their house. He speaks English so maybe you can leave a note with the items describing what needs to be done? Just a suggestion... | ------------------------ |
