Are donations still needed for repairs and safety of people of La Manzanilla. | ------------------------Re: donations

Donations are always needed here. There are many people who lost nothing from Patricia because they already had nothing to lose. Donations are always needed here on an ongoing basis. I canīt recommend to whom to donate other than to the church, but if you ask around you will find many people with friends whom they know are desperate. They will take you to these needy people to donate to them directly. You will get to meet and talk to the people who are receiving your gift. You will see how they are living with your own eyes. You will feel the warmth of their gratefulness for your help. You will be glad that you did it, no matter what time of year whether after or not after this or that disaster. | ------------------------Re: donations

Thank you Kim and Jonathan for your thoughts on cash donations for hurricane Patricia relief. I agree with Jonathan that there is still need. If one has any doubts, just turn off the main road and take a look in the surrounding barrios. Viva La Manzanilla!, is a small group that was born immediately after the storm to put into action the outpouring of support coming from the expat community, and from family and friends within Mexico. (See more photos on the Facebook page viva la manzanilla, or in the archives here) Our mission was to assess the damaged homes, find the proper fit of materials, and assist these families, primarily with putting on roofs. To date, over 40 families have been helped, largely through volunteer labor. We anticipate serving another 10 (if possible) in the coming weeks. This grass roots group is doing what we can to serve the tremendous need for basic shelter after the storm. With our people power and funds, we will not be able to help everyone, but know that we have put quite a few back on their feet for now. All donations are used for roofs, new mattresses, stoves, and other basic needs. Viva La Manzanilla! is accepting cash donations at the Tenacatita Bay office (Ada's property management) on the corner opposite Lydia's Market. Josefina Parilla is generally in the office between 10 and 2. If Josefina's office is closed, please see Lety Hernandez at Estudio Marmaya (Conrado and Lety's design business) to donate. That office is just across the street from the Tenacatita Bay office, with glass doors. We can also accept donations of food stuffs. Most needed are: toilet paper, diapers, diaper wipes, toothpaste, soap, beans, cooking oil, rice, cookies, etc. Once this chunk of work is completed I plan on posting a final summary here. We are also working on a slideshow link. Finally, I can provide anyone interested with our Excel spreadsheets tracking donations, expenses, and which families we have helped. Again, with intermittent phone, power and wifi, washed out roads, etc we are doing the best we can! Thanks to all the volunteers and donors! And special thanks to June Nery, back in Colorado. Without her guidance, and knowledge of fundraising we could not have accomplished what we did. It has been and continues to be a profound experience. | ------------------------Re: donations
