pen pal letters need ride

The students of the La Manzanilla primaria elementary school have written pen pal letters for 4th grade students in Brewster, Washington. There is a bundle of several dozen letters needing a ride to the states to be mailed USPS. This is the fourth round of an ongoing exchange with Spanish speaking kids in the U.S. contact Bruce ovalpeak@gmail.com if you know of some one who could carry and mail them. This request is made to find more secure delivery than the regular mail. Gracias. | ------------------------Re: pen pal letters need ride

Thank you, Valerie, for your offer to bring north the letters. If you don't mind mailing them from Canada, that would be much faster and more secure than the Mexican mail. I will reimburse you for your mailing cost. The principal / directora at the primaria is Adela Cedano Sandoval. She is a wonderful, friendly person who has facilitated this exchange for two years. I don't know if she speaks English but will be expecting you. Please contact me by email for some details and my contact info. Mil gracias, Bruce Morrison

We have friends in and around Brewster, WA. It is a great community that has had tragic loses from the recent forest fires. I was chatting with an attendant at a gas station there and extolled the virtues of LM, and he said that he had family in LM, and he would love to return. Unfortunately a large corporation is consuming the world and the apple orchards around Brewster and is not user friendly. We would love to personally deliver the letters, but it would not be possible until early February. | ------------------------Re: pen pal letters need ride

Yes, Ron and Valerie, Brewster is a small town at the confluence of the Okanogan and Columbia rivers. A family corporation dominates and employs most of the town. Most white children attend the Christian school. The students in lower grades of the public school are nearly all from Mexican families. Their home language is Spanish but all teaching is done in English. I am a teaching artist and initiated this exchange to build their Spanish literacy and connection to Mexico. Adela facilitated the letters during my residency in the LM school two years ago. Students in both schools now are eager to write, draw and learn about their peers on the other side of la frontera. The Brewster community suffered from wildfire the last two years as LM was impacted by hurucan Patricia. Thank you for your support of this exchange. Bruce Morrison ovalpeak@gmail.com
