SEWER REPORT DECEMBER 2015 The “Playa Limpia Committee” met on December 12. * We installed the new President: Pando (Arnoldo Gabino Velazquez). * We are scheduling a meeting in January, with President Carlos in LaHuerta, to ask for matching funds for the gantry and better electrical system of the pumps and a new pump, among other projects to come. * Status of pumps: Check valves may not be functioning well. 25 HP pump has flow rate of 4.2 liters/sec at the pump station; 2.2 liters /sec at the treatment plant. * Need to scrape/paint/maintain the pump station. * Hope to construct the gantry and hoist in January, depending on matching funds from LaHuerta * Discussion about making a bill available to all for water and sewer. * Plan was made for drawing a census map of the present system as an aid to the Engineers Without Borders when they come, hopefully in June or July. * Official announcement: We have been APPROVED by the Engineers Without Borders from the North Coast Chapter, where they have created a successful sewage treatment plant using wetlands. Along the process of studying the system we will be updating you. Now, we need to stand up and be counted as WE HELP MAKE THIS HAPPEN! Part of it is in raising funds to have our part matched by Mexico. Thanks to all who have contributed so far. The money is safely tucked away until we KNOW that we have a proper plan with ½ payment from LaHuerta. Another help is to form a WORK PARTY to scrape/paint the pump house and surrounding fence. More to follow on a date for the work party. We also need housing and some food for the 5 or so engineers volunteering their time in June or July. Please offer feedback and/or questions in comments below or email me.

hokey pokey and magic ...mmmm.. think there are a lot of people trying to improve the sewer situation in la Man with not a lot of thanks ...where I live we pay property taxes , food taxes , liquor taxes, gas taxes etc etc ..without such a stream of funding to support infrastructure it is difficult to make improvements and build new infrastructure .. many thanks to those volunteering their time on the front lines trying to make things better | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Dec 2015

The treatment plant is on the left side of the road into Los Ingenios, just to the left and behind Tamarindo's water pump. | ------------------------Re: SEWER REPORT Dec 2015

Thanks, Jim, for your offer to make another donation to the Playa Limpia Initiative, and to all others who have donated to this cause. Tierralegre, A.C. is waiting to hear back regarding some potential funding for this project for this upcoming year. Meanwhile, we still have a little bit of funding left for this project from individual donors who have contributed to this cause over this last year. We are certainly excited to hear that our application for technical support, etc. has been accepted by Engineers Without Borders! Anyone interested in donating to the Playa Limpia Initiative fund can do so through the PayPal account that Mary Jo has set up, or through Tierralegre whereby you can also receive a U.S. tax deductible receipt, or a tax deductible receipt for Mexico, if that is important to you. You have a couple easy options listed below. NOTE: Make sure to earmark all donations for the “Playa Limpia Initiative.” 3. If you'd like to make a US tax-deductible donation please visit our “Friends of Fund” page on the International Community Foundation website—where you will find various options, including paying with a credit card online, for donating—at: U.S. tax-deductible donation link 2. If you´d like to simply make a donation to this cause and are not worried about receiving a tax-deductible donation, then you can personally drop your donation by the Tierralegre office at María Asunción 49-A in front of Lidia´s Mini Market. Please get in touch with me first by e-mail or on my cell: (315) 104-5442, to make arrangements. 3. If you´d like to make a donation within Mexico and receive a Mexico tax-deductible receipt which is honored in Mexico and many other countries, then you can either drop it by the office following the instructions above or you can make a deposit directly to the Tierralegre Banamex account which is set up exclusively for this fund. In this case, the account number is: 8433582; the sucursal is: 7002; and the Clabe Interbancario is: 002385700684335826. Note that in kind donations are also accepted—e.g., water testing equipment, etc. (but check with us first to see if the in kind donation is something we can actually use for the cause). Any questions, please get in touch with me by e-mail or on my Mexican cell: (315) 104-5442, or my U.S. line: (865-230-7995) Together as a community we can insure that our beach and the surrounding aquatic ecosystems are clean, safe and sustainable for years to come!
