Road over lagoon?
Posted by Sally and Dave on December 17, 2015, 9:01 pm
Dave and I will be arriving in La Manzanilla on Friday, Jan 1st and we are wondering if there is a road over the Laguna? We stay with Steve at Castillo Chulada and need to know what to tell the taxi driver! And what is the back road to Boca like? Thanks so much for any info you can give us. We can't wait to be back in La Manzanilla! Cheers.....Sally | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

No road over the lagoon yet. I drove the back road from Boca and it is full of sand drifts. It was pretty hard on my Ford Focus, skidding and barely making it over them. I hate to think of what the undercarriage looks like. I think taxis are in the same category. People in vans or trucks are fine. No way would I try that again!

Thanks Norma.....Does anyone know if there is a plan to rebuild the road any time soon? | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

I drove the back road yesterday(Wednesday) taking my catamaran to the beach. There are several places where the pools of water are about two to three inches deep and 159 feet long. A great deal of the sand has been cleared. I drove as far as the cemetery. I think a taxi would be fine. | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

Hi Guys, We usually arrive about the 7th or 8th of Jan. For the past 2 years since we've stayed in Boca the road has been open by the time we got there, hoping it will be this year, but there are a lot of new priorities. Looking forward to seeing you. Ed, just curious is you were driving a truck or a car? Trucks no problem, but a low car with sand so thick in the middle of the road didn't feel very good for the car. Kind of like being stuck in a snow drift and swerving. The puddles were not the problem. The road needs to be graded. If I had known it was so bad I would never have risked it. I am quite sure a taxi driver would not be happy going there. Sally and Dave, I would suggest arranging for someone with a truck meet you at Palapa Joe's and drive you there. | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

We have seen lots of folks getting dropped off at the suspension bridge and walking over to Castillo Chulada with their luggage in tow. The Boca road is okay for hiigh clearance vehicles, but Norma's right - tough for a regular taxi. If you have a lot of luggage, you could leave it at Irene's or Valentina's and walk back for a second trip - a little more exercise , and you have nothing but time | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

Thanks everyone! We have no problem walking over the bridge. Just curious! We are looking forward to seeing everyone ...and we appreciate all the info. Cheers! Sally and Dave | ------------------------Re: Road over lagoon?

"They" promised that the road over the bridge will be open by Christmas. Of course, that does not solve the problem of getting to Boca, but it's a start. Bon voyage, | ------------------------
