La Manzanilla First Time Visitors
Posted by Steve Morgan on December 30, 2015, 6:00 pm
Hi, my wife and I are visiting La Manzanilla from Canada for the first time, we had a couple of questions we thought the folks on this bulletin board might be able to help us with: 1) What's the best approach for mobile phone? I see that SIM cards and pay-as-you-go can be purchased at Oxxo stores, is there a place to buy a SIM card in La Manzanilla? Our Canadian carrier (Virgin) offers a plan, but it's pretty expensive. 2) What's the approximate cost of a taxi from Manzanillo (where we are arriving) to La Manzanilla? Should we reserve a car service in advance? 3) What assistance can we provide in helping the local residents recover from the hurricane? Many thanks, Steve

1)I bought a cheap Mexican cell phone. You only pay for outgoing calls. Buy it in Melaque. 2) I think the taxi costs 765 pesos from the airport 3) I know a family who are needing bricks and cement to rebuild their home which was demolished by Hurricane Patricia. They have 3 children and very little income. | ------------------------Re: La Manzanilla First Time Visitors

Thank you for your response. I assume these building materials are available in La Manzanilla? Steve | ------------------------Re: La Manzanilla First Time Visitors

Sounds great. My email is the little white envelope besides my name. Thank you, Steve and your family. | ------------------------Re: La Manzanilla First Time Visitors

For a cell phone, we have brought our phone from Canada and had it unlocked first. Then we purchased a SIM card from Telcel and we top it up as needed on line. It's $35.00 to unlock the phone, as I recall. After that it's very reasonable. Here a phone is about $300 pesos ($30.00 or less) and you get minutes with that. Depends on how attached you are to your phone. I like having my smart phone here. There are always ways to donate money here. I think the ideas presented are really good. You don't really need to reserve a taxi in advance. They'll be there. Happy trails. Vicki | ------------------------Re: La Manzanilla First Time Visitors

We just bought Sim Cards for our Moto G phones. We had to get them in Melaque as non are available here in La Manzanilla. Top up minutes are available here at a few different locations in La Manz. though. | ------------------------
