Hi
The problem dog just past the cementario that Susie warned us about(Jan19)is still doing its thing. But from there to downtown I did not see any unsupervised dogs. As I left the beach last night and dropped the rocks I was carrying, I commented to a local fellow that there were no dogs on the beach. He said "Good".
This morning I went by city hall to thank the mayor for resolving the dog problem in front of Figueros restaurant so quickly. I asked him if the sharks had a meal. He just smiled and said the sharks were still hungry. Anyways, a combination of sterilization, complaining to the Delegado and the shaming of irresponsible owners seems to working.
Mexico certainly has bigger challenges than a few dogs on the beach, like child malnutrition. For those who can find a job, the government minimum wage is now $73.04 per day. I was told the people cooking and cleaning for us are making about one hundred pesos per day, which explains why so many young people from here risk death crossing the desert to get to Disneylandia.
Below is a translation of the Mexican version of the Woody Guthrie classic, This Land is your land, this land is my land. You can listen to it at youtube:
Esta Tierra es Tuya, Esta Tierra es Mia
1. This land is your land
this land is my land
from the horizon
to the other side
From the mountains,
coasts, rivers and valleys
The land is for you and me.
In the world live
poor people
and in the world live
rich people,
and then there are
many travelers like myself
in search of a better life.
2. While out walking
I came to a border
where there was a sign
that said "Do not enter"
And on the other side
It said nothing.
The land is for you and me.
And on the road
where I'm traveling
my destiny opens
as the dawn
So it must be,
"... Those who work it".
The land is for you and me.
(General Emilio Zapata quote- "The land belongs to those who work it."
Bye
