As you already know, a small group of us has been working hard at getting a spay and neuter clinic planned for La Manzanilla, and an accompanying fundraiser. We admire the work Julie has done for the past 12 years even more as we've worked to get things organized.
Unfortunately we've hit some glitches. Vets who were supposed to come from the State of Jalisco are unavailable. Veterinary supplies, also promised us from the state, are not available because of budgetary issues. We did have three vets lined up to do the surgeries, and we had them housed, and we had the Ejido Building reserved. But without the necessary medicines, surgical instruments, and general supplies, and with a lack of truly experienced volunteers in key areas, we just don't feel we can effectively hold this clinic.
So this is what is happening now: we have an agreement with local vets in Barra, Melaque and here in La Manzanilla, where our dear Rocio has agreed to return for longer periods of time. They will supply sterilization at a special rate for us. We will take animals to them for the surgery and return them to their homes, free of charge. In this way, we should be able to serve--maybe not as many animals as we'd hoped, but many of the animals whose health is in jeopardy if they continue to reproduce at such an alarming rate.
We still need your help. We need people who would be willing to transport animals, and we need help identifying the animals that would benefit from our services.
Bottom line--the Fiesta at Figaro's is still on, and every peso we raise will be used to provide spay and neuter services for La Manzanilla animals, and will be accounted for here on the message board--full transparency.
Please come out on Monday night and help us while enjoying Mike and Simone's wonderful music and the great atmosphere at Figaro's. Bring an appetizer to share!
