SEWER REPORT January 2016
A belated thank you to Jack Vooys, Linda Koenig, Craig Bell and Marcia Grothe for their donations.
Very good news! President Carlos of LaHuerta, today, agreed to pay for materials to make the gantry-hoist(a permanent structure) over the carcamo (sewer pumping station). This will hoist the pumps up and down for maintenance and repair. He also agreed to pay for plastic coated cyclone fencing material. We are responsible for the obra (worker´s construction). We are also responsible for cleaning, priming and painting the standing posts ready for the new fence material.
It was a bit more clearly explained today, exactly what does the municipality do. As far as I understand, their jobs are 1) to pay salaries of the garbage collectors, gas and maintenance of the trucks, as well as new trucks when needed. 2) Clean the streets and roadways 3) Create new paved roads as necessary. The road grader, back hoes and other road maintenance machines are slowly making their way south from the north end of the municipality to our end. We happen to be last in the long line of clean up from the hurricane. The machines are just beginning work in Arroyo Seco. They will get here.
Thanks to Joe Hostetler, we are opening a “store front” named FUTURE GREEN LAMANZANILLA. It is located opposite side of street from old Cafe Flores restaurant. It will be open only Thursdays from 4-6 pm. We will display the plans for the drenage as well as plans for future water control measures that have been designed by road experts. There will be a space for anyone to voice their questions, suggestions and requests for other progress measures to be done in LaManzanilla.
We also learned that - by law- water is free to all people in Mexico. If we want to drill a well on our own property, we could have free use of that water. However, if we use water that has been pumped above ground for us and delivered to our door, it is no longer free. We need to pay for that service. So please, let us all go to Lupe´s bike shop and pay our annual fee for water.
More information will be coming as we progress. Don´t forget to stop by and say “Hi” on Thursday 4-6 opposite side of street from old Cafe Flores.
