My niece Chesley Williams has visited us here at Casa Luz many times and has that same affection for La Manzanilla that we all share. She is proposing to offer her expertise on earthquake/tsunami preparedness during her upcoming visit next week. Here is her summary:
I work as a seismologist for a software company that models catastrophes. I have traveled around the world to study the aftermath of major earthquakes and tsunami. I have seen firsthand how basic education about these disasters can fundamentally change the impacts on communities. I would like to share some science about earthquakes and tsunami and then discuss what to do before, during and after such events. I intend to talk for 30 minutes and then open up for a discussion and to answer questions.
