A young woman friend of ours - visiting La Manzanilla - came to our house today to report that she was attacked while walking on the beach with her 10-year-old son this afternoon.
She was accosted near the cemetery by a male in his 30ís, who she thought was not speaking English or Spanish- she thought he could be French. The attacker threw large rocks at her head and hit her with sticks.
She feared very much for her son's safety and of course for her own. Some nearby French-speaking men luckily came to her assistance and managed to pull the man off her.
She appeared very traumatized by the incident. Since she spoke fluent Spanish, she called the Police from our house. We don't know if they came.
Then we heard of two more incidents that occurred this morning on the same stretch of beach, with the same man involved.
Everyone should be warned about walking on the stretch of beach near the cemetery. Our friend thinks this man is extremely mentally ill, and likely to attack others.
