Visiting the School Garden is one of the loveliest things you can do on these beautiful cool, peaceful mornings.
Look for the sign that says 'HUERTO ESCOLAR' on the left side as you take the main road out of town, across from the big pIles of gravel.
Take the dirt road down to the end, and enter a world of beautiful green vegetables, grown by the young high school students of La Manzanilla.
This has been a long-term project with lots of volunteers, who perhaps someone else can name for me....
I just want to give a shout out to Peter Earley who is pictured in the first two photos. He has been the major driving force behind the garden and its maintenance, spending many hours there showing the kids everything from how to make compost, to planting and harvesting their crops.
It's a stunning endeavour, a real addition to this community, and to the kids' education. Many thanks to everyone involved!
