Many, many thanks to Bruce and Lisa Walker who bought and transported the chain hoist
and trolley from USA which we will use for the gantry. They saved us $2,365 pesos
with their donation!
We are happy to report there is no more black water flowing into the lagoon! And the black
water is flowing smoothly out to its proper place in the treatment plant in Los Hingeños.
Just like it was doing in 2006! So far so good!
Our thanks go out to the State Water Department (CEA) who appeared in LaManzanilla about
3 weeks ago. Their directive was to stop the flow into the lagoon. Unfortunately, after they
left, the black water flowed back into the carcamo because the check valve broke and it
started to bubble out into the street by the crocodile ticket booth. We now found out
where the overflow tube went! It was when they came back that the real solutions took place.
1) They brought a vacumn truck and vacumned out the pump house (carcamo), so we could see
the original 2006 design.
2) They brought a boom truck from Guad to raise and lower the pumps, thus saving us a cost
of renting one before we got our gantry built.
3) They repaired the check valves by using a strong bolt and nut instead of short screw,
saving us over $8,000 pesos for a new check valve.
4) They installed air release vents to remove air pockets on the line.
5) While opening the 4” pipe, they discovered the pipe leading to the treatment plant
to be clean and not plugged.
6) They opened the manhole cover corner of the church and delegado office, discovering
1 of 3 loosely made brick columns had collapsed under the weight of the traffic. We are
waiting for engineers to make the correct columns before we put that manhole back together.
(Looks like that happened Thursday!)
