I concur with Larry, I went to the immigration office to renew my temporal visa and was given the choice to either add on additional year to my existing visa or upgrade to the permanante which I immediately said YES. The process was painless, transparent and easy as I have described it, my only comment was regard to the fact that a lawyer was not needed for the process.
Obviously not everyones situation is identical and there are always some hoops to jump through but in my case, the office did all the heavy lifting and was more than helpful. I know many people who have done it unassisted and achieved the same results.
It is somewhat like getting a Mexican drivers licence, a lawyer is not needed once you understand what the process is and what is involved, that I also did without the assistance of a lawyer.
Mind you, there as many instances where a seasoned lawyer may help someone who needs legal advise and where the internet research can not provide sufficient help (I am thinking about the importation of a foreign car into Mexico, from what I understand, that can be a challenge.
I am glad that Maggie was able to provide you the assistance you needed with your desired results, after all, that was her job and why you paid her.
