The Fiesta at Figaro's benefitting spaying and neutering of dogs and cats was a huge success! Muchas Gracias to Pino who offered his restaurant and Simone and Mike who played their fabulous music! I really appreciate all of you who came out in support of the goal of helping the animals. When I first got here in November, it was brought to my attention by Joanne K. that the dogs at Figaro's needed spaying, so she, Brenda & Dottie funded the first 3 dogs (Coco, Rosie and Zuma) to be spayed by Beto. Joanne T., Brenda, Pino and myself transported them. Contact with Pro Animal Melaque resulted in authorization of the next 4 dogs that we took to Beto. Lisa, Mayan, and Laura assisted in transporting them. The next step was forming a committee with the goal of fundraiser and spay as many more as possible in the month of February. Lauren, Jeanne and Lisa offered their assistance. Now that we've raised the funds the work begins and we have had great response from folks offering to drive to the vets in Barra and Melaque as well as surgical support. So now the work begins. Jeanne, I congratulate you on a job well done. You were an awesome emcee last evening! Thank you. You will see Jeanne volunteering her talents at the Valentine's Day event as well as the Bare Bones Theatre. Lauren, Lisa and I are will be working on the next phase and are moving forward on this. I'd like to thank the ticket takers: Paula, Isaura, and Valentin. Food organizers: Jo Anna H Set up: Neal and Sue Flowers by Lisa's daughter Photographer: Laura Bar Tenderesses: Josie and Patti. Thanks to Karen Taylor of Pro Animal Melaque for speaking of the goals of Pro Animal Melaque and Christine who has been my mentor these past few months. And words of aupport here in La Manzanilla from Julie, Pam and Marsha of Cisco's Amigos. Carell has offered to be our book keeper to keep all the money transparent I know there are many others and please let me know if I forgot you. Now begins accomplishing the vision of an easier life for these La Manzanilla Lovedogs!

Spay/Neuter Fundraiser

I wish to add my voice to the thankers and appreciators (can I use that vocab?). From my side of things, it looked as if last evening was a huge success, and I know an enormous amount of effort by only a few people went into making it happen. I am interested in knowing just how much was raised and who, how, when, where . . . the money will be spent. Yes, I know, in a general way, that los gatos y perros will be well-served, but am interested in the details. How does all this happen now? I also wish to offer my services as a ride-along supporter/helper/animal handler . . . whatever I can do to help out (without a car). Mis Amigas, you have been brilliant! :O)

It was a very successful fundraiser. We raised over 30,000 pesos! One of the sweet members retired as she has other committments with Valentines Day and Barebones. So that left the 3 of us. I managed to get one third of the funds released which I am donating to Pro Animal Melaque to spay and neuter La Manzanilla dogs. As explained by Karen Taylor at the fundraiser, they have a great relationship with the vets in Melaque and Barra de Navidad and get great discounts. They authorize each surgery, so there is a real transparency. Another committee member is most likely going to do this as well. Not sure what the third person who lives here year round has in mind. I am only here for a month and determined to accomplish the goal of using this 10,000 pesos for as many spay and neuters as possible. Pro Animal has the best discounts as a result of a long going relationship with the vets. So any of you who have supported, please do not give any more money. Tomorrow I am going to the school with Maestro Miguel to sign up dogs of the students. I will start the spaying on Friday taking 2 to Beto and the following week several more trips with a big day on Feb. 12 with 20 small animals. And those of you who so kindly offered to drive, please get in touch with me.

Thank you so much Norma for all your work in helping the dogs and cats of La Manz. I think donating to Pro Animal Melaque and working with them is a brilliant plan. They are wonderful people who have a great relationship with the vets, speak excellent Spanish, have also great relationship with many Mexican people and know lots of kind hearted souls who help them. Myself and Paula have taken a number of dogs to them and have had excellent support in all areas. Also Beto has been fantastic...we just took a little dog there yesterday who was on deaths doorstep literally and will also need spaying when she is strong enough. Beto was awesome and helped us and her so much. I will bring her back here tomorrow after the melaque market and will be looking for a foster home for her until we find her forever family This is how things work...supporting people who already have so many things in place is the fastest and best way to move forward. Good for you. Thanks to everyone who helped with the fundraiser, you are all totally awesome!! Linda Mandala
