Seeking Support for Another Animal Welfare Project
Posted by Lynne Willard on February 8, 2016, 11:06 pm
Now that the spay and neuter program is under way, thanks to its heroic volunteers, I would like to enlist support for the other animal welfare project initiated by Cisco's Amigos--a makeshift animal sanctuary on the south side of town.
Brief history:The sprawling home of Don Luis and Maria, at the corner of Ma. Asuncion and Negritos across from the schools, had long been the "depository" for nearly thirty unwanted animals when Maria, their caretaker, died on March 1st two years ago. Cisco's swooped in to spay and neuter all of the dogs and cats and collect donations for food and preventative medicine (fleas and parasites). Because I lived around the corner, love animals and admired Maria, I volunteered to be the primary feeder.
Dubbed Cat Central because cats far outnumbered dogs at the time, it now has a stable population of "only" fifteen who eagerly greet visitors and eat in their special room. Homes have been found for all of the adoptable animals, but efforts to solicit help from 92-year-old Don Luis, his extended family and neighbors have ended in utter failure and lots of "disappeared" food. By default, sustaining his endearing collection of pets requires a wider community effort.
In the prolonged absence of Cisco's, it has become increasingly difficult for one person to financially support the critters and feed them every single day. Please contact me directly through the white envelope or by calling (315) 351 5395 if you can make a small donation: a bag of dry food, ten minutes of your time or 150 pesos ($10 US or CAN from afar through PayPal) to purchase quarterly doses of medicine. Any monetary donations will be carefully managed and "the books" will be open. I would gladly send you a few photos of Cat Central residents and/or introduce you to the menagerie.
Muchismas gracias on behalf of los preciosos traviesos: Bobby, Mona, Chaparita, Ali, Gloria, Octavio, Petra, Nuez, Rhonda, Noche, Paula, Delgado, Ramon, Tigre & Tommy

Re: Large Dog Kennel for Sale to Benefit Cat Central
Diana Quadri here in La Manzanilla has graciously offered to sell a large, unused dog kennel and donate the proceeds to the maintenance of Don Luis's 15 deserving pets. Purchased to transport a boxer, the gray, hard plastic kennel is airline approved. Because Diana doesn't use the Internet, please call her at (315) 351 5057 if you have any interest. Thanks.

Re: Large Dog Kennel for Sale to Benefit Cat Central
Hi Lynne, I am going to Diana's today to purchase the dog kennel as there are beach dogs that are needing crates to go to Canada. Thank you and I will talk to you about cat spaying in the next week!

Re: Large Dog Kennel for Sale to Benefit Cat Central
Thanks, Norma! I am down to one stray female kitty who is pretty much living on my porch now, with her new boyfriend Tigris, so she won't be difficult to catch. :-)

PS. I hope you meet Rufus who, along with another lab, was rescued from the field next to Cat Central. He is now Diana's gardener's best friend and "assistant." :-)

Re: Large Dog Kennel for Sale to Benefit Cat Central
Hi Lynne, I am leaving in 3 weeks so am concentrating on female dogs. I have Beto totally monopolized till then. I am aiming to do 40 dogs before I leave. Get in touch with me via email in March and I will let you know the authorization voucher procedure for the female cat. There is a list of folks who offered to drive after I'm gone who I will put you in touch with.
