The beneficial properties of DDT to control the mosquito was discovered in 1939. It was widely used in WWII in the Pacific Theater to protect our soldiers and then became became the 'go-to' insecticide for US farmers after the war. It was cheap, had no negative effects on humans and was very effective on all insects. It's overuse caused the upper food chain birds (hawks, eagles, pelicans and owls) to loose the ability to reproduce because there egg shells could not withstand the weight of the mother nesting them.
Because of this, Rachel Carson wrote Silent Scream and the result was the banning of DDT worldwide.
Since then, many other insecticides have been produced. None is as cheap and effective and as benign to humans as DDT.
If you want to get behind a cause that saves untold human misery, join the cause to allow the use of DDT.
