Here is a round of applause for you, Vicki. I hope the local people who come around collecting plastic bottles and aluminum cans availed themselves of the opportunity to boost their collections by patrolling the beaches during Semana Santa. I'm curious why there are no trash collection barrels on the beach. I would certainly be willing to make chip in for a salary for someone to empty them and carry the trash to the street for collection each day, and I bet a number of Message Board readers might do the same. If each property owner or renter made sure the can nearest to their property was rolled up above the tideline each night, the problem of their being carried away by the tide could be circumvented. I realize there are months during which not all of the beachfront residences and businesses are frequented, but the barrels could be put away and stored during this time. Perhaps impractical. Just brainstorming. On Lake Chapala we did programs with the kids... poster contests and outings to collect garbage and encourage them not to littler. It seemed to work for the locals, but the Tapatios would still descend every weekend leaving their litter in their wake. Are there any programs to make kids consider not littering??
