Daniel, the information I gave you predates the advanced version of the bar code. It only works with bar codes starting with the 0. Because it was the Americans who developed the first version of the Bar Code, it was universally accepted as UPC (Universal Product Code). It was then changed to EAN, or European Article Numbering. But that was after my time, so I don't know much about it, except that the first two digits represent the "country code".You can find which country when searching either Google or Wikipedia. A misconception is that the country code represent the country of origin. But, if let's say Walmart asks Corralejo to make the Tequila under their (Walmart's) name and using their (Walmart's) label, it would start with the number 0. Thus it would mean that it was produced in the US. Not true.
