We had a scary toad experience this past summer with our then new dog, Nube, who weighs some 24 kilos, 1.5 yrs. After each rain we had cane toads coming in our house-2-3 at times (under doors with still unfinished floors-in the canyon/mountain area of La Tigra). One morning she arrived frantic at my side of the bed, breathing heavily and foaming profusely from the mouth. She was SO scared and confused. My first thought was snake or some kind of poison. It was early Sunday morning and we tried calling two vets and only got their voice mails. Then we thought of the toads and started researching and sure enough. She'd kissed a toad! Apparently that's all it takes for a reaction like hers. We flushed her mouth out over and over with water, as suggested, and gave her lots of TLC for the rest of the morning. She was all better fast and has avoided contact ever since. AND those "cute little toads" are no longer welcomed in the house. Judy H.
