Bebe Tortugas

Cyndi were lucky enough last year to be walking back from Boca when a female came out of the water, dug her nest, laid her eggs, covered them and headed back to the sea. It was only about 5:00 in the afternoon, and I guess that was unusual, not being at night. But I do believe it was about the time of the full moon. There might have been about 8 of us who noticed and protected her activity. Quite a few passed without noticing what was happening. A Mexican family from Melaque were nearby for the day and noticed near the end. They were cool, understood that the Tortugas were endangered and said that they knew that a Mexican agency in Melaque digs the nests up to protect the eggs, incubates them and then releases them. I drove off one interested dog with rocks and there were no other threats. After she got back in the water we camouflaged the nest and the tracks back to the sea. I kept checking the spot for about a week and there was not disturbance. Hopefully they got to the sea naturally.
