I hope that someone left a foot-long shot glass outside last night. Does anyone have a good idea about how much rain we got? Inches, for sure, but how many? Finally took Vini the dog out in pouring rain in my underwear at 6am. The poor guy peed for almost a minute after 13 hours or more indoors. We are amazed that power stayed on all night.
Hi Jon, it just so happens that I recently installed a plastic tube rain gauge. I have given up on the electronic ones; I never could make them last even one year. My gauge captured 3.3"/84mm since last evening when the rain started. Of course, if we get more than 6" before I get out there to read it and dump it, then it will overflow and I'll be under-reporting. Oh well! I'll be gone starting in mid-July, so hopefully Tom and Mary Jo can try to keep track of the rainfall again.
Most of this moisture around us the last few days has been streaming from the interior of Mexico, not from the ocean. An unusual situation. In the TRMM radar satellite data from about 6 hrs ago (below), you can see some of the rainstorms from last night.
The tropical cyclone activity right now is almost nothing. There is only Invest 93E well to our south with a 60% chance of developing into a named storm in the next 5 days. Even that disturbance is passing us by and heading west:
