The purpose of any protest is to exact change or be heard by the "powers that be". I do not see a positive effect of this protest in a foreign country, other than to be self satisfying. It is thoughtless and disrespectful to the residents of La Manzanilla to force an issue of the United States on them. I respect your enthusiasm for the issue. We all travel to Central America to enjoy the culture and the country and be helpful when the situation arises. Too often, when in a foreign country, foreigners do not weigh the impact of their actions on the indigenous peoples of an area. If it makes one feel good and productive to gather and make a statement on an issue in one's home country, then why not do it quietly and privately by more directly impacting the issue by being in Washington, telephoning government officials, etc. Rather than become self-satisfied by imposing your own issues on those who may not desire it. So many of you do such wonderful things for La Manzanilla - why not be satisfied with helping others rather than annoying them. One must look to how one's actions would be if reversed. It is always a guide to good relations. Be thoughtful of the all the people.
