There is another reason to protest, and perhaps one of the most important reasons of all - to go in the historical record as being opposed to specific policies and actions. Example: The extensive Iraq War protests did not stop the war and were mostly ignored by the powers that be, yet every history account I see now about the Iraq war also mentions that there were large numbers of people who took to the streets to express their opposition to US government policies of the times. Future generations will know the Iraq war was opposed by significant numbers of human beings because of those protests.
