I remember . . .

I remember -- partly from personal experience, partly from reading and listening -- the days when women could not vote, did not have dominion over their own bodies, could not own property, could not drink in public establishments, could not charge their husbands with rape, had to quit teaching when they married, earned less than men for doing the same or equal work, could not even get an abortion when raped, possibly even brutally, by a complete stranger. Please forgive the brevity of my list; we all know that there is a great deal that could be added.
Being female has come to me by birth but, if I had a choice, I know what it would be. I am proud to be a woman and proud of women's accomplishments, especially toward gaining equality, even in my lifetime.
I am sorry that photos will be posted by some solely for entertainment, so people can sneer rather than show respect for their mothers, grandmothers, partners, daughters, and granddaughters.
Gentlemen, I hope the women in your lives will be proud of your actions on January 21, 2017.
